Care for Your Moccasins

Moose, elk, deer and cowhide benefit greatly from a leather conditioner and we highly recommend that you apply this before you wear your mocassins. It will protect against scuffs and act as a barrier against most stains and dirt.

We suggest our Leather Lano Cream made with natural products. It has a pleasant Eucalyptus fragrance to freshen your footwear.

When dirty, take a moistened cloth with a mild soap and clean both inside and outside. Do not soak. Allow the moccasin to dry in a cool place away from the hot sun or heat registers.

Suede sheepskin moccasins can be cleaned with a damp cloth without soaking. Alternatively, there is a special suede eraser taht can be used to remove stubborn stains.

Leathers

Sheepsins and all the leathers used in our moccasins are a superior grade. Only the top hides of Moose, Elk, Deer, Calf and Cow hide are used for the outer shells. These leathers have natural markings that are part of their character. They tend to be softer, warmer and wear better than some domestic leathers. Each moccasin in our range uses a specific leather to complement the purpose for which it was designed.

Sheepskin Moccasins

Our moccasins are lined with either wool, sheepskin or natural fibres. Wherever possible we avoid artificial materials.

Wool adjusts well to the temperature of the body, has natural resilience and wicks away excess moisture resulting in warm feet without overheating and the discomfort of perspiration.

Acrylic pile looks like sheepskin or wool lining but it has a tendency to make feet sweat and has poor thermal properties. Many of our customers shy away from wool because of the unfortunate experience they have had with acrylic.

Wool pile has all the comfort properties of sheepskin and is used in certain designs to afford a price advantage. The wool fibres are woven into a cotton backing resulting in a product that looks and feels like sheepskin.

Moccasins made of sheepskin only are designed for warmth and comfort with the added bonus of a luxurious feel. They are, however, more delicate thatn their leather alternatives and for this reason they are not recommended for heavy duty wear. Combining sheepskin with another leather in the design results in extra comfort and durability.

Beads that are incorporated in the design have no set colour schemes as the artisans have their own characteristic preferences and these are subject to change. If there is a specific colour that you prefer and we have a match in stock, we will oblige your request.
